What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is an exceptionally gentle, yet profound therapy in which the primary aim is to create and maintain a healthy balanced state throughout the whole body.
The craniosacral system is at the very core of our Being. It is a fundamental life force which creates and maintains our vitality, pervading every cell in the body.
Craniosacral therapy evolved in the early 20th century, from the work of the osteopath, Dr. William Sutherland who found that there is a subtle rhythmic movement in the body known as the cranio-sacral motion. This rhythm is caused by the constant tide-like ebbing and flowing of the cerebral spinal fluid which surrounds and bathes the central nervous system - the brain and spinal cord - providing it with nutrition and drainage.
However with injury, illness, infection, disease, tension, stress, trauma etc. this perfect balance will be disturbed. The body's health may reflect these disturbances on any level: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, superficial or profound, recent or chronic, transient or deeply ingrained.
With a very gentle touch, I use my hands to "listen" to the body through various holds, particularly at the cranium (skull) and sacrum (pelvis), to read the health and vitality of the client and to become aware of disturbances to the body's healthy function. This can aid the body itself to facilitate release, reuniting mind and body to restore harmony, vitality and balance. The stillness which can often result, can be very profound.
With its holistic approach craniosacral therapy may help with a wide range of conditions both acute and chronic and is suitable for all ages.
